Legumes Producers Group

The Legumes Producers Group of the Agricultural Cooperative of the Farsala Province “Enipeas” was established in 2017. Its members cultivate lentils, beans, and chickpeas in the plains of the Farsala region and in the riverside villages along the Enipeas River.

One of the group’s long-term goals is to focus primarily on Greek varieties. As part of this effort, production and promotion of the Greek chickpea variety “Amorgos” have already begun. The group operates through contract farming agreements and promotes the region’s legumes under the cooperative’s own label.

The producers’ group collaborates with universities and other institutions, while also working toward the recognition of Farsala legumes as protected regional products. One of the group’s key achievements has been the submission of an application for PGI Farsala Medium-Seed Chickpea status. This initiative aims to strengthen the identity and value of chickpea production in the region and open up new market opportunities.

The group is officially recognized and participates in various agricultural programs. Legumes are produced using conventional, regenerative, and organic farming methods.

The group markets the region’s legumes in packaged form under the cooperative’s label, making them available to consumers through both retail and wholesale channels.
